Really, really random ponderance...

Was the Roman switch from the Pantheon to Christianity/Catholocism an economic decision more than a religous one?

After all, Christianity, unlike most other religions at the time, did not require sacrificial livestock, leaving more for food for the populace and troops.

No actual data to back this up, just a very random thought.
